Leadership Spotlight on Tech and Marketing: Meet Stefania Nicolau
In this edition of our Leadership Spotlight series, we interviewed Stefania Nicolau about her role as the Marketing Manager for iSTYLE CEE.
iSTYLE is the Retail branch of MIDIS group with 50+ years of experience representing technology vendors in 70+ countries across the Middle East, Europe, and Africa regions, ensuring long-term exposure and growth.
Who are you, and what is your current role?
I am Stefania Cezara Nicolau, an experienced marketing professional currently serving as the Marketing Manager for iSTYLE CEE. I oversee marketing and CRM activities across nine countries. I work with local teams to strategize, implement, and monitor marketing initiatives that drive the region's brand growth and customer engagement.
Could you describe your goals and key accountabilities to get you there?
My primary goal is to elevate iSTYLE's brand positioning and customer experience across Central and Eastern Europe. This involves developing cohesive marketing strategies, enhancing customer relationship management (CRM) practices, and ensuring alignment with brand guidelines.
To achieve this, my key accountabilities include leading regional marketing campaigns that align with Apple's standards and local market needs, supporting local teams to adapt global strategies, and ensuring effective implementation and optimizing CRM tools and initiatives to drive customer loyalty and retention, as well as budget planning and resource management to maximize ROI on marketing efforts.
What is most rewarding about your role?
The most rewarding aspect is seeing the tangible impact of strategic marketing initiatives across multiple markets and collaborating with diverse teams. Watching campaigns come to life, engaging audiences, and fostering a community around iSTYLE is highly fulfilling. I also appreciate the opportunity to develop talent within my teams and see them grow professionally.
What are the biggest challenges you are facing in your role? What are the biggest lessons learned?
The most significant challenge is managing cross-cultural differences and aligning marketing strategies that resonate across various markets with different consumer behaviors. Balancing regional autonomy with cohesive brand messaging is complex. Additionally, keeping up with the rapidly changing digital marketing landscape and ensuring that CRM systems are continuously optimized presents an ongoing challenge.
One of the critical lessons I've learned is the importance of adaptability and remaining proactive. In the marketing world, changes happen quickly, from shifts in consumer expectations to technological advancements. I've also learned that building strong relationships with team members and stakeholders can make or break a campaign's success.
What qualities do you believe are most important for successful leadership in marketing?
Successful marketing leadership requires a mix of strategic thinking, empathy, and resilience. Good listening, inspiring others, and a strong vision are essential. It's also critical to stay curious and adaptable to respond to the fast-paced nature of the industry.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
I would advise my younger self to trust the process and embrace failures as learning opportunities. Every setback is a chance to gain valuable insights, and it's crucial to maintain confidence in your abilities while being open to feedback and growth.
How does the remote work environment impact your role?
Remote work has been a double-edged sword. On the positive side, it has allowed for greater flexibility and an expanded ability to connect with teams across countries. However, the challenge lies in maintaining team cohesion and clear communication without the benefits of in-person interactions. I've had to develop stronger virtual leadership skills and ensure consistent engagement through digital tools.
How do you balance work life and personal life?
Balancing work and personal life is so important in marketing, but it's so easy to get pulled in a million directions. What's helped me most is learning to be really intentional about my time. I try to set clear boundaries and prioritize self-care to avoid burnout and maintain peak performance.
Whether it's spending quality time with loved ones or indulging in my favorite hobbies, I carve out dedicated time for activities that recharge my mind and body. I've also gotten better at delegating tasks at work, which frees me up for things I truly enjoy. Effective time management and strategic delegation are my secret weapons for achieving this balance—that's what allows me to excel professionally and personally.
It's not always perfect, but those little things make a big difference in feeling balanced.
What's the last thing that made you smile?
The last thing that made me smile was seeing a successful product launch campaign that received positive feedback from customers and local teams. Their enthusiasm and engagement were a testament to our hard work and dedication.
Where do you see yourself, and what will your role be in the future? What are you looking to accomplish?
In the future, I envision myself in an executive-level marketing leadership role, where I can continue to shape brand strategies on a larger scale, possibly overseeing an entire region or even working on a global level. I am looking to accomplish a greater integration of digital transformation in marketing practices and foster innovative, customer-centric campaigns.
What's on your bucket list to do within the next five years?
My five-year vision includes:
-
Spearheading a groundbreaking international marketing campaign that earns industry accolades and sets a new standard for innovation.
-
Becoming a sought-after speaker at leading marketing conferences, sharing my insights and expertise with a global audience.
-
Empowering the next generation of marketing leaders through mentorship and knowledge sharing, contributing to the profession's growth.
-
Launching a passion project that leverages my marketing skills to positively impact the community, perhaps through education or outreach initiatives.
